The First Condom Commercial on This Day in History

This Day in History: On this day (13 November) in 1987, the first TV advert for condoms aired in the UK. The condom maker Mates aired five humorous – and one serious – commercials aimed at promoting condoms as a way to prevent the spread of HIV, despite the fact the AIDS was largely confined to certain groups.

The first commercial showing a gay couple was an Ikea advert in 1994.

Five years ago Nike aired the first commercial featuring a transgender athlete.

Twix recently made a commercial with a young boy in a dress and a witch nanny that didn't even feature any Twix bars.

Of course, these days ads like these are the norm, not the exception. Companies can't push the envelope fast enough. I remember it being said that all stories are mysteries. Now, I fear that all entertainment is indoctrination.

I came up with a list of what I think is required these days for a show or ad to be allowed to be made in this modern woke atmosphere:

Mixed race couples should be prominent.

The villain in a show must be white. "In the make believe land of movies, television, and commercials, if there is a heinous crime to be committed, 99.9% of the time, it’s now going to be done by a white guy. In fact, it has to be done by a white guy."~ Douglas MacKinnon

If there are a lot of white males, then the white businessman will be the villain.

White people must be portrayed as unpleasant and/or hateful.

If a white family must be shown, it must be portrayed in the most negative light.

Christian clergy must be shown as bad and sinister.

Christianity must be seen as bad, unless it is practiced by people of color.

Members of  non-Christian religions must be portrayed as sympathetic figures.

At some point, there must a character in a show that trashes the idea of God or Religion. Religion, especially Christianity, must be discussed and then denigrated.

People of color must be present throughout European history.

The good people in movies or shows must be Democrats, and Republicans should be ridiculed.

White men, especially white husbands must be seen as stupid.

Women must be portrayed as strong and able to do anything a man can do...even more.

When remaking an old show, the new cast must be diverse, and by diverse I do not mean diversity of opinion.

Southerners must be shown as outrageously stupid.

Catastrophic global warming (climate change) must be shown as an undeniable apocalyptic reality, and man is to blame.

People who engage in alternative lifestyles must be over-represented.

All companies must be portrayed as evil. “Hollywood’s approach toward finance, indeed towards capitalism in general, is almost relentlessly negative.” The Economist
